Knitting Jenny Patterns 142 and 143: Icelandic Léttlopi Wool Ski Hats are stranded colorwork ski hats with cabled ribbing, designed with pure Icelandic sheep wool, which contains special fiber properties to enable knitting yarn that is lightweight, warm, durable, breathable, and water resistant, the perfect textile combination for ski hats. 

The ski hats are knit circularly, and are constructed as follows: 

• Cast on, knit the brim, increase, knit the stranded colorwork of the head, then systematically decrease at the crown.

Knitting Jenny Patterns 142 and 143 create an elastic and flexible ski hat that fits a Size Medium adult head, with instructions for Size Customization.

Knitting Jenny Patterns 142 and 143 feature 3 shades of Ístex brand Icelandic lopi wool in the léttlopi weight, which is considered a worsted/Aran weight.

The léttlopi put up is 50 gram balls that include approximately 100 meters.

With just 3 balls (150 grams total), both hats can generally be knit as each finished hat weighs approximately 70 grams. 

The following tools are required:

• 3.5mm, 16 inch circular knitting needle (for the ribbing)
• 5.0mm, 16 inch circular knitting needle (for the stranded colorwork)
• 5.0mm double pointed needles (for the crown)
• Cable needle for the ribbing, if desired
• Stitch markers
• Darning needle
• Scissors

Knitting Jenny Patterns 142 and 143 call for the following gauge; however, your needle size requirements may vary.

• 23 stitches and 24.25 rows to 4 inches (10 centimeters) over the stranded colorwork yoke, knit circularly with 5.0mm knitting needles, after washing, blocking, drying.

Grayscale instructions are included to enable the knitter to envision personal color preferences, by seeing the chart and motifs alone, in grayscale, without color distraction.

• Firstly included is a grayscale chart, which is a black-and-white representation of the full color chart.
• Secondly included is a grayscale inverse chart, which is a white-and-black representation of the black-and-white chart.
