Knitting Jenny Patterns 112 and 113: Icelandic Léttlopi Wool Ski Hats feature a classic seamless design of stranded colorwork, with triangular segments converging at the crown to create a kaleidoscopic star effect.
Knitting Jenny Patterns 112 and 113 each feature 3 shades of Ístex brand Icelandic lopi wool in the léttlopi weight, which is considered a worsted/Aran weight.
This book includes a bundle of two similar yet different ski hat patterns:
- Pattern 112 is a conventional length ski hat with a straight star effect at the crown, achieved with centered double decreases.
- Pattern 113 features a curved swirling crown and is a modern interpretation of a traditional Fair Isle fisherman’s kep (or cap or hat). The kep is long, conical, colorful, and meant to be worn folded at the crown, in the historic style of fishermen and sailors.
Knitting Jenny Patterns 112 and 113 are designed with pure Icelandic sheep wool, which contains special fiber properties to enable knitting yarn that is lightweight, warm, durable, breathable, and water resistant, the perfect textile combination for ski hats.
Knitting Jenny Patterns 112 and 113 include knitting patterns, motifs, and instructions in the following inclusive formats:
- Color Charts
- Grayscale Charts
- Written Instructions
- Illustrations
Knitting Jenny ski hats are similar in styling and fit to a variety of traditional hats, including the beanie, Monmouth cap, skull cap, toorie, toque, watch cap, and woolly hat.
The ski hats are knit circularly, and are constructed as follows:
- Cast on, knit the brim, increase, knit the stranded colorwork of the head, then systematically decrease at the crown.
The following tools are suggested for these patterns.
- 3.5mm knitting needles (for the brim ribbing and crown)
- 5.5mm knitting needles (for the stranded colorwork)
The gauge for Knitting Jenny Patterns 112 and 113 is:
- 16 stitches and 22 rows to 4 inches (10 centimeters) over the stranded colorwork pattern, knit circularly with 5.5mm knitting needles, after washing, blocking, drying.
Knitting Jenny Patterns 112 and 113 create elastic and flexible ski hats that fit a Size Medium adult head with approximately 22 inches in head circumference.
Instructions are included for size customization.
To support knitting education and consistent, uniform stitch definition, the following chapters are included, titled:
- Brim Ribbing Options
- Seamlessly Joining Circular Knitting
- Color Dominance
- Splicing Yarns
The color chart and written instructions guide the stranded colorwork knitting clearly. Additionally, grayscale designs are included to enable the knitter to envision personal color preferences, by seeing the chart and motifs alone, in grayscale, without color distraction.
The book includes 2 knitting patterns, 16 illustrations, and 32 pages.
The book is intended to be read electronically, in consideration of the environment.
