Knitting Jenny Pattern 129: Irish Aran Islands Inspired Cabled Headband is influenced by the historic knitting heritage of the Aran Islands, which includes wool traditions of knitting complex patterns with cables and other textured motifs.

Knitted cables are associated with aspects of the sea and land of the Aran Islands, located approximately 30 miles from the city of Galway, on the Atlantic coast of Ireland.

Knitting Jenny Pattern 129 includes a cabled lattice motif and instructions in the following inclusive formats:

  • Chart
  • Written Instructions
  • Illustrations

The headband is knit circularly, and is constructed as follows:

  • Cast on, join circularly, knit the ribbing, knit the cabled lattice motifs, knit the ribbing, then cast off.

Knitting Jenny Pattern 129 features Tahki brand Kashmir yarn, which is 75% merino wool, 23% silk, and 2% cashmere.

Alternately, a different wool brand——though similar yarn weight——can be substituted for Knitting Jenny Pattern 129.

The Tahki brand Kashmir putup is 40 gram balls that include approximately 97 meters, per the yarn labels pictured on this page.

The finished headband weighs approximately 38 grams.

The following knitting tools are suggested:

  • 2.5mm, 16 inch circular knitting needle (for the ribbing)
  • 4.0mm, 16 inch circular knitting needle (for the cabled lattice motif)
  • 4.0mm cable needle

The gauge for Knitting Jenny Pattern 129 is:

  • 26 stitches and 32 rows to 4 inches (10 centimeters) over the complete textured cable pattern with knit and purl stitches, knit circularly with 4.0mm knitting needles, after washing, blocking, drying.

The hat pattern specifies 4.0mm knitting needles for the cabled patternwork, which produces a Size Medium hat.

To change the hat size, change the needles per the following technical specifications for the adult head:

  • 3.5mm needles; Size Small; Approximately 21 inches in head circumference
  • 4.0mm needles; Size Medium; Approximately 22 inches in head circumference
  • 4.5mm needles; Size Large; Approximately 23 inches in head circumference

To support knitting education and consistent, uniform stitch definition, the following chapters are included, titled:

  • Seamlessly Joining Circular Knitting
  • Water Splicing
  • Washing and Blocking

The book includes 5 illustrations and 14 pages.

The book is intended to be read electronically, in consideration of the environment.
