Join us for a special day of Fair Isle knitting!

Learn Fair Isle knitting with Dr. Jennifer Daley, textile historian and Fair Isle knitwear designer who lived on the Scottish island of Fair Isle, the historic birthplace of Fair Isle knitting.

The full-day workshop is $115, which includes all knitting instruction, one Knitting Jenny pattern of your choice, and three balls of Jamieson and Smith brand 2 ply jumper weight wool yarn.

All knitters and skill levels are welcome in this workshop. Learn to knit Fair Isle style stranded colorwork, or improve your existing Fair Isle technique. 

The workshop includes:

  • One Knitting Jenny pattern of your choice
  • Three balls of Jamieson and Smith brand 2 ply jumper weight wool yarn
  • All Fair Isle knitting instruction delivered in person by Jennifer Daley
  • Fair Isle knitting tips, tricks, and techniques
  • A guided exploration of traditional Fair Isle patterns and motifs
  • An explanation of ideal yarn properties for Fair Isle knitting
  • A discussion of Fair Isle knitwear design, including color dominance and color theory
  • A presentation of Fair Isle textile history and Shetland knitting tools
  • A Fair Isle knitted hat-blocking explanation
  • A steeking discussion on how and why to safely cut your knitting

During the workshop, students will be knitting the Knitting Jenny pattern that they individually selected. So, bring your pattern and tools to the workshop, and we will knit our way through the day!
