I love dresses from the 1940s. This is an original pattern from 1943. I especially like the center front diamond insertion and the waist sash.

I made the dress in silk dupioni, from Thai Silks, but washed and tumble dried the silk fabric before cutting out the pattern, so the fabric would relax a bit, and I could machine wash the dress in the future.

The dress is fine, but I won't make it again. The set-in sleeves just don't provide enough movement for me, for dancing. I have a real love-hate relationship with set-in sleeves: I feel that in order to look nice, they must really, properly fit. But, if they fit properly, then, that means it's a tailored look, which restricts movement. And as I specifically make dresses to dance in, the one thing I need is ease of movement.
