Knitting my way through Portugal
Completed in April 2014

This is the hand-dyed Rosie's Moments brand sock yarn in the Sparkle Skittles colorway. You can find this interesting independent yarn dyer online at her Etsy shop. Just run an Etsy search for "RosiesMoments."

The fiber content is 85% wool and 15% nylon. This is a sparkley yarn, but the sparkley bits are not represented in the fiber content on the yarn label. No biggy.

Just as I did for these socks, I purchased this yarn from the friendly and helpful staff at the Rosie's Moments yarn stall at the wonderful Waltham Abbey Wool Show, on 19 January 2014. The knitting festival was small but great in that there were so many independent knitting and yarn companies represented. I do appreciate exposure to these smaller companies. I much prefer buying yarn from a "mom and pop shop" than a huge multi-national corporation, don't you?

This Rosie's Moments sock yarn cost 11 pounds (about US$18), which is reasonable for London. I prefer a merino/nylon blend for socks instead of this plain wool/nylon, but it's all still ok. You get what you pay for. I am happy with this yarn at this price. I will buy from Rosie again. I appreciate the way she offers a more economical option to we knitters. And, her color selection is excellent.

The final photograph, above, was taken recently at Graham's Port wine tasting room in Porto, Portugal. If you have any interest whatsoever in wine and/or port, go to Porto! It's one of my all-time favorite tasting places---right up there with Napa and Sonoma Valleys in California, cycling through vineyards in Argentina and, of course, the "wine ships" or floating wine tasting that occurs every November on the picturesque harbor in Zurich, Switzerland.

Porto is a beautiful and interesting city, and there are many, many port wine firms near the center of town. You can walk from one to the other. An amazing experience!
