Vacancy

I love scary movies. But......you know there's always one girl in the moviehouse that screams at the top of her lungs? Well, that's me. I'm the screamer. Sorry.

I walked out of this movie just when I knew there would be the inevitable screaming. It just got too much for me. It was the point in the movie where Luke and Kate are in the hotel room, they've discovered the video tapes, and there's the impending knocking at the door. I knew what was coming.

I knew that this movie had gotten poor reviews. But I went to see it anyhow, and I had high hopes from the get-go. The design of the opening credits is awesome. They're great. They really set the mood. They're retro. Not too much color usage, but enough.

Then the movie opens with the scene of Luke driving down a desolate road. Now come on, who takes a "short cut" like that? I lived in California, and even I know better. Of course you're asking for trouble like that, driving so late, in back-end roads, with a bad map. Of course the killer is going to come get you. Duh. It's as if Luke and Kate had never seen a scary movie before.

Don't you think it's interesting in the movie (and in life) how when people are upset with each other, really angry, on the brink of divorce (like in this movie), don't you think it's interesting how all it takes sometimes is for one person to swallow his stupid pride and just say sorry. Then everything changes, in a moment.

I saw that happen in the movie, when Luke and Kate are in the room, before the killer knocks on the door. Interesting. I wonder what really happened to them by the end of the movie. Does somebody out there know?
