The Illusionist

Is it my imagination or has there been a windfall of magician movies lately? Around Christmastime, there was the movie, The Prestige, which was clever and showcased Christian Bale, who has freaked me out since the movie American Psycho (which is, incidentally, the only book that, after reading, I literally threw in the trash can for prompt disposal) and who has never really improved professionally since his great great debut as the lead kid in the very-watchable WW2 movie, Empire of the Sun. Like The Prestige, The Illusionist is a similar clever movie, with everything tying in neatly in the final five minutes of the movie, in a way in which only a magician can, I suppose. The costumes in this movie were nice eye candy, as was Rufus Sewell himself, who I happily discovered via my friend, Anna, who introduced me to Rufus in the BBC movie about Charles II.
