14 March 2007 The Good German The Good German was a real unusual movie in that it was shot completely in black and white, to emulate the grand old black-and-white movies of the 1940s, which I love so much. But the funny ways of the old movies are still funnier when it’s George Clooney playing lead, in a military uniform. The movie was hilarious in that respect. They really tried their best to make it look like an old movie, with the melodrama, the constant smoke (although George Clooney is never actually pictured smoking), the shadows and retro camera angles, the intrigue. This was a nice movie to look at (What’s there not to like about 1940s fashion?), but not a great movie overall. |
