The upside: the choreography. All the girls’ matching dresses. Eddie Murphy’s velvet suit with satin lapels. The costume designer must’ve have fun with this gig. The downside: too many improbabilities and clichés in the script, and some unnecessary scenes. This movie couldn’t seem to make up its mind if it were a musical or just a movie with music. After awhile, when the characters would spontaneously break out in song, the audience started laughing. So did I.
