All about me

Control

Of all the movies I've seen this year, this is one of my top favorites. I loved it.

It's a thoroughly English movie, set in dismal black and white, which so accurately depicts the characters' dismal surroundings. This is a slice of sad, low-income English life in the boonies.

The movie is about the formation and success of the English band, Joy Division, a band that, as an American, I had never heard of.

Not that I know music or anything. I don't. But I did see a documentary on TV while cat-sitting the other week, and it was about Ian Curtis, the lead singer of Joy Division who suicided at the age of 23. It's quite the sad tale of a wasted life.

But oh, the music! I love it. Not that I know music or anything. I don't. But I know what I like. And, to me it's interesting, learning about the whole Manchester music scene of the 1980s. It's interesting reading and understanding why most English bands come from outside London.

I think I need to check out Manchester one of these days.
