Leonardo DiCaprio is in his element. He’s a real tree-hugging liberal, so I can imagine how he must have jumped at this script. Oh cry me a river. Sure it’s sad that people are mistreated and that there’s injustice in this world, but hey, what’s new? I see injustice every day, right in my own backyard. I don’t need to see another sad African movie about it. Like The Hotel Rwanda, like The Last King of Scotland, like The Constant Gardener, etc etc, Blood Diamond isn’t really helping the African tourist industry. And it won’t stop me from wearing diamonds. Every time I’ve been engaged, there has been the inevitable discussion regarding blood diamonds, either initiated by a groovy beau or a conscientious salesman. Oh please. Everyone knows you can’t really trace the origin of diamonds, so why bother? There is always a corporate paper trail, but who knows if it’s been doctored? And anyway, aren't diamonds a girl's best friend?
