Knitting Books All about me |
23 January 2007 Black Book What's there not to like about World War II fashion? Wasn't it grand? I recently wrote a paper for my M.A. program wherein I had to read every single page of every British Vogue magazine published between September 1939 and May 1945, to determine fashion trends and how the war was affecting fashion, and how fashion was affecting the war. It's all interesting stuff to me. What's interesting is taking a seemingly frivolous topic like fashion, and analyzing it against something so completely not frivolous, as war. Sure, the movie's backdrop was horrific and the storyline sad. But did you notice the handknit, embroidered gloves Ellis was wearing when she greeted her family at the barge? I think I will design gloves like that, in the Shetland 2-ply jumper weight wool. |
