The unblocked tam shows no resemblance to the final flat product.

I blindly blocked this over a dinner plate, and the already-loose ribbing became unbearably floppy. So, I just cut off the ribbing and picked up the sts to re-knit the ribbing with a smaller needle size.

The finished ribbing pulls in now as it should.

Knitting specs:

Heathered gray Fair Isle patterned tam, with black, red, light gray, and white. Knit with Jamieson & Smith brand yarn, 100% Shetland wool, 2-ply jumper weight.

Ribbing was knit with 16 inch, 2.0mm Addi turbo circulars, and the body was knit with 16 inch, 3.5mm Hotz & Stein ebony wood circulars

Knit in the round, from the ribbing to the center.
