Review
I love this book. Although I'm not a big fan of modern literature, and I'm certainly not a big fan of Japanese themes (long story, but I worked in Tokyo for four years), this book is great. It really sucks you in, and you learn something about history in the process.

This book takes place on the Northwest coast of the States, and the author does such a good job of describing the town, the people, the rain and foliage, the strawberry season, the Japanese community, World War Two, and the Japanese internment.

This story is about a white kid who falls for a Japanese girl, and the inevitable clash of cultures. Of course, they can't be together. It's all really quite interesting.

I confess, I did watch the movie version of this book, with Ethan Hawke, long before reading the book. The movie is great. It's such a rare thing to wonder whether it's the book or movie that's better.
