Quote
"She seemed like a nightmare of Lucy as she lay there; the pointed teeth, the bloodstained, voluptuous mouth---which it made one shudder to see---the whole carnal and unspiritual appearance, seeming like a devilish mockery of Lucy's sweet purity."
Review
Like a lot of people, I thought I knew the whole Dracula story. But, I have to say, this book really fleshes out the storyline, the background, Transylvania, and all that.

It's definitely worth a read.

And, it's quite scary.

Some of the story takes place in North London, where I live, near Hampstead Heath. And as I generally read in bed, very late at night, this book gave me the jitters.

In the beginning of the book, Count Dracula is actually a nice guy. When he receives the English visitor at his castle in Transylvania, the Count treats him with the utmost courtesy. The Count cooks for the guest, and cleans up after him, and is quite the host with the most.

Later we discover it's because the Count can't maintain any staff and therefore has to do all the housework himself.

And, of course, the story goes downhill from there, and it's creepy, but interesting. This book is definitely worth a read.
