"They seized each other by the shoulders, hugged mightily, squeezed the breath out of each other, saying, son of a bitch, son of a bitch, then, and easily as the right key turns the lock tumblers, their mouths came together, and hard, Jack's big teeth bringing blood, his hat falling to the floor, stubble rasping, wet saliva welling, and the door opening and Alma looking out for a few seconds at Ennis' straining shoulders and shutting the door again and still they clinched, pressing chest and groin and thigh and leg together, treading on each other's toes until they pulled apart to breathe and Ennis, not big on endearments, said what he said to his horses and daughters, little darling."

Review
|
I loved the book, and I loved the movie. Sure, I could have done with a little less of the graphic gay scenes, but the story's all about gay cowboys, so those scenes are, shall we say, essential.
This book is actually a collection of short stories. But the only short story that I remember in this book is Brokeback Mountain. I can't even vaguely recall what the other stories were about.
When I read the book and when I saw the movie, the one thing I kept thinking was how the amazing mountain scenery was so similar to that outside my Dad's parlour window in Colorado. Dad's up in the mountains, and he's got such a nice cozy parlour, which is so nice to hang out in, in a comfy chair, with the mountains outside (and preferably snow), a roaring fire in the stone fireplace, and my knitting at hand.
