Mittens for my nephew, Alexander

My nephew, Alexander, (who I call Zander) loves Spiderman. Here he is with his dad, my brother Stephen. Like father, like son, eh?

I had intended to design some Spiderman mittens for Zander, but it proved more difficult than I'd envisioned. I'd had grandiose ideas of black cables across a red background, etc etc.

I had also thought of designing some glittens (mitten + glove = glitten) wherein Zander could make those Spiderman hand gestures which he's doing in the above photo.

But in the end, and despite my efforts at swatching and at drawing endlessly on graph paper, I had to suffice with Spiderman colors. So, here are the red-blue-black mittens. The white yarn insertion is the thumb (afterthought heel).

Here are the finished mittens, before felting. Once felted, they will look more uniform.

Here are the flying fish, up close and personal. Luckily, at the last minute, I remembered to reverse the fish, so they are flying in opposite directions (not the same direction, which would obviously have been catastrophic).
