Cassandra's tam o' shanter
Completed in January 2010

I knit this tam for my sister, Cass. Speaking of which, and for your amusement, here's a photo of her, taken in 1977. She was singing on stage. She was singing "Dust in the Wind" and when it came to the violin solo part of the song, she would pick up her violin and start playing.

I jest you not.

But more importantly, check out the outfit! Cass was always so fashionable. She's five years older than I am, and I always looked up to her fashion-forward self.

Cass always designed and made her own clothes, which guaranteed a certain unique-ness about them.

Oh, what I wouldn't give for this circa 1977 outfit today! I would totally wear it now.

Not sure if you can tell, but the buttoned vest and matching gauchos are of a gray pin-striped men's wool fabric. Cass is wearing a jade bracelet that her boyfriend gave her. And her boots----her boots!----are GREEN leather, with center front lacing.

Boots, oh boots, where are you now?

The diameter of this tam is 11.25 inches. This tam is huge! So, per the request of the recipient, it will be nice and floppy.

This tam project was knit with my favorite Jamieson & Smith brand two-ply jumper weight wool.

I knit with five colors: white, black, green, light purple, and dark purple.

I made the design up myself and incorporated a kind of "African violet" motif, because my sister especially likes African violets.
